The black streaks running down a shingle roof are algae, not dirt, and they will not scrub off. They come off chemically, with a low-pressure application that kills the growth and lets rain carry it away over the following weeks. Pressure on asphalt shingles strips the granules that protect them, so no machine gets turned up on a roof we work on.
We apply from ladders and the ground wherever the pitch allows, flush the gutters afterward, and soak the landscaping under the drip line before and after. Call about dark streaks coming off the ridge, moss along a north slope, or a roof that looks a decade older than the rest of the house. If shingles are curling or brittle we will say so rather than wash a roof that needs a roofer.
